The use of the plant as a remedy was very popular in the 19th century. Nowadays it is still used for its antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial properties. Even AIDS patients have been given herbal remedies based on the plant.

Irrespective of all that has been said, written and printed about Echinacea, it has found it to be the one supreme and dependable remedy to combat morbidity in the blood. This could be a problem for those who are looking for what benefits the immune system, because studies indicate that full effectiveness as a preventative is only achieved after using for three months consecutively. Echinacea may be a better choice for occasional use, as a treatment or to speed recovery time from colds and viruses, as this was its historical use.
